INSTITUTIONAL STANDARD · GOVERNANCE

Trust should be designed
into the organisation.

Good cultural work depends on more than creative intent. It requires clear responsibility, documented decisions, financial care, honest public claims and meaningful cultural governance.

HOW WE WANT DECISIONS TO BE MADE
01

BEST INTERESTS

Act for the association's purposes and community benefit, not personal advantage.

02

DUE CARE

Use reasonable care, skill and diligence in decisions, finances, programs and risk.

03

CONFLICTS

Identify and manage conflicts rather than allowing hidden interests to shape decisions.

04

EVIDENCE

Distinguish confirmed facts from proposals, demonstrations, aspirations and reconstructions.

05

CULTURAL AUTHORITY

Institutional authority does not replace the cultural authority of communities and knowledge holders.

06

ACCOUNTABILITY

Keep appropriate records and create clear pathways for concerns, review and correction.

01

Management Committee responsibility

WAIIVPA's affairs are managed through its management committee in accordance with the association's rules and applicable Western Australian law. Committee responsibility includes oversight of organisational decisions, financial stewardship, records, risk and compliance.

This public page explains the governance structure without publishing personal contact details of individual office holders.

02

Rules, records and legal obligations

The association's internal rules sit alongside the Associations Incorporation Act 2015 (WA) and other laws that may apply to particular activities. Material decisions should be supported by appropriate minutes, resolutions, delegations or project records rather than informal assumptions alone.

03

Program governance

Projects should have a defined purpose, status, responsible decision-makers and appropriate safeguards. A project described as “in development”, “proposed” or “illustrative” should not be presented publicly as funded, partnered, delivered or approved unless that status is confirmed.

04

Cultural governance is not the same as corporate governance

The management committee can govern the association, but it cannot grant itself cultural authority over community knowledge. First Nations ICIP, family rights, local protocols and community-authorised decisions may require separate people, permissions and processes.

05

Accuracy in public claims

WAIIVPA aims not to invent or overstate grants, partnerships, sponsors, awards, endorsements, historical facts, event dates, participant numbers or outcomes. Demonstration content should remain visibly labelled until it has been verified and authorised for public use.

06

Questions, conflicts or governance concerns

Governance questions can be directed to info@waich.org.au. Concerns should be documented, directed to an appropriate decision-maker and handled in a way that protects procedural fairness, privacy and cultural sensitivity.

Public transparency is a practice, not a slogan.

As WAIIVPA grows, this page should be reviewed whenever governance arrangements, policies, committee structures or legal obligations materially change.
